A good measure of a company's integrity is the manner in which it supports the communities in which it does business. As Stone has grown, so has our commitment to helping those in need. Our charitable donations committee has selected the TCOR Hemophilia Society and Toronto's Chill Out program as our corporate charities. We also hold various fundraising events during the year in support of the United Way.

TCOR Hemophilia Society
In 2001, a portion of the sponsorship proceeds from Richard Stone's Maui Marathon run were used to establish the Gale and Rick Stone Learning Fund, a source of funds to pay for tutoring of hemophiliac children who require extra support in school. As a mild hemophiliac himself, Richard has firsthand knowledge of the effects of this disease and how it impacts life on a daily basis.

TCOR Hemophilia is committed to improve the quality of life of people affected by hemophilia and related blood conditions, and to work towards a cure through:
  • Direct communication and advocacy with the Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Centres where most hemophiliacs and people with related blood conditions obtain treatment and information;
  • Advocacy to ensure the safety, accessibility and portability of all products and services used in the treatment of hemophilia and related blood conditions;
  • To ensure the highest quality of life for hemophiliacs and people with related blood conditions
  • Assisting in providing funds for medical research in the development of cures for hemophilia and related blood conditions; and
  • Education of society membership, the care community and the general public about life with Hemophilia and its treatment.

Maui Marathon
Stone congratulates our President & CEO, Richard Stone, on completion of the Maui Marathon:
On March 18, 2001, Richard gave our supporters and suppliers a literal "run for their money" when he embarked as one of thousands of runners in the Maui Marathon.

In addition to fulfilling a personal dream, Richard's hope was to create an ambitious fund raising opportunity - and he did it, completing the run and raising more than $21,000 for Stone's corporate charities!

The proceeds were split three ways between the TCOR Hemophilia Society, the United Way and the Chill Out Program, which provides support to the homeless in Toronto. Many of you participated in this goal through your generous sponsorship contributions, and we extend sincerest thanks on behalf of Richard and the charities for your part in making this run a great success.

Richard believes that be it a grueling 26-mile run or managing millions of dollars for Stone investors, strong performance results require personal stamina and are largely achieved through constantly focusing on goals.

Hard work, perseverance and giving oneself room for growth combined to deliver the highest rate of return on this particular investment: family and a sense of community are, after all, some of the most worthwhile areas in which to invest.
